About Temple

For the tiny circle of friends at Irani Colony in 1956, it was the desire to serve the community through spiritual activities. This desire made them gather together to conduct a Shree Shani Mahatma Pooja in this colony. The balance amount left after this pooja festival made it possible to form a permanent Pooja Samithi. It was a humble begining.

Since then the grace of the Almighty had enabled us to celebrate Shani Mahatma pooja regularly every year. The generosity and the good-will of the memebers has in a big way helped the Samithi to serve the community.

The phenomenal success of our Annual Pooja Festivals and the enthusiastic response therin have provided an impetus to us and today we are a well knit organisation devoted to socio-spiritual activities.

We look back with pride as how we've grown. In 1959, the Samithi began performing regulary weekly Bhajans in the room of one of our members every Saturday. The activities of the Samithi ever since then have been steadily growing in scope and effectiveness.

In 1965, the Pooja Samithi placed its foot towards self reliance. It secured its own room where the Idol was placed and this opened up a wider scope for free and regular Bhajans Poojas.

As the Samithi grew up in stature, it was possible for us with his grace to install a Silver Idol of Shree Shani Mahatma in 1965 in place of the earlier one made of wood. We added another jewel to our crown when the Shree Shani Mahatma Pooja Samithi got registered as public Charitable Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.

The last few years saw the members participating and celelbrating various festivals like Shivaratri, Gokulashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Sharada Pooja, Diwali etc.

The Samithi is also undertaking various social activities in line with its commiment to the society. We have initiated and accomplished several social activities, such as, constructing approach road to the colony, keeping the whole colony neat, clean and hygienic.

Thanks to the regular contribution of the devotees, the temple is being renovated continuously. In 1984, Marble Floors were laid in the temple. By the blessings of Lord Shree Shani we had installed a Navagraha door in the main enterance of the temple on 2nd March, 1988. In addition, a type of roof for the protection of the Navagraha door has also been constructed.

Following the construction of the new Peetha for the Lord last year, this year the entire floor around the Peetha is completely sprayed with marbles. This has been possible only with the enormous involvement and contribution of the devotees.

In line with our urge to organise functions of spiritual interest, we made yet another beiging this year. In the month of May we organised a five day special programme called " Shree Brahma Kalasha mahotsava" a festival of Lord Shree Brahma (25-5-90 to 28-5-90). The Mahotsava was conducted under the guidance of Shibaroor Brahma Shree Vedavyas Tantri. Apart from conducting various poojas for the well being of the society a Maha Annadanam was organised on the Last day. This provided a fitting finale to the Mahotsava wherein about 5000 devotees participated from all over to seek the blessings of the almighty. This year's Mahotsava is only a begining of yet another annual feature. The grand success of the Mahotsava has given us a lot of zeal and enthusiasm to serve in the Samithi.

All said and done, those would not have been possible but for the encouragement and patronage of the devotees and well wishers. it is our sincere hope and belief that this sacred movement will get continued patronage from its devotees to serve the society even better.
